Orangutan Photos from the San Diego Zoo

I went to the San Diego Zoo on Saturday and got some great photos of our orangutan cousins, and I wanted to share them with you all.  Karen, the female, rolls from place to place.  Satu, the enormous flanged male, looks so impressive and stoic!  I think flanged orangutans look the best out of all apes.

Enjoy!

I know! He looked very impressive. Adult male orangutans are about seven times as strong as a human, too. I was really happy I got such a good view of a flanged male. Last time I was in San Diego the orangutans were much less sociable.

I once went to the Berlin zoo where there was a mama and little baby. It was just this orange fuzz ball. He was probably a great conductor of static electricity. But that was kind of a sad environment, all grey cement. Looks like these guy’s in San Diego are living the good life.

Yeah, the San Diego zoo seems to take pretty good care of its charges. I do feel a bit bad for them. I wonder if they’re aware of their situation. They had a one year old at SD, too. It was just adorable, clinging to its mom like a big, furry necklace.
