I found the most wonderful encyclopedia! James Randi has put his An Encyclopedia of Claims, Frauds, and Hoaxes of the Occult and Supernatural online for free!
James Randi, for those unaware, is a famous skeptic, who’s debunked the likes of Uri Geller and James Hydrick. I absolutely adore his work, so it’s great to be able to read his encyclopedia online. His writing style is very clear and witty. And it has some really interesting entries, especially the one-ahead method, which is such an ingeniously simple fraud that I wish I had thought of it. It has entries for a lot of famous frauds and hoaxes, like the Shroud of Turin, and explains why they’re clearly bunk. It also has entries for various techniques and figures that might be germane, as well. It’s a nice little read. I’ll have to try to get myself a hard copy so I can go through cover to cover.
